Is it a weather thing?
The spuds I'm getting from the local grower scheme are mostly bitter and borderline inedible. Some are green and I avoid those anyway, and the odd nasty one would be ok, but bitter is bad news isn't it?
They seem to be different varieties going by the look of them.

Any thoughts?

I would not eat.
Bitter can be solanine, and can come about from storage conditions, not just green from solar exposure
