can give swans' a run for their money.

Treacle had been in the wars today (they have the odd scrap especially at this time of year) and in the way that combs do, hers was bleeding profusely from a tiny cut. I was mopping her up (just in case the others thing, mmm, tasty snack) and stood her on my lap. An escape bid resulted in a painful set of wings in the face; which I forgot about until my nose started tingling this evening. There's no mark or anything silly, it's just disconcerting.

I don't think there are many chicken wing related deaths but I might report myself to that list that comes out every year saying 42 people injured by tea cosies and 18 people incapacitated by toothbrushes last year

Of course she tried to eat the bloodstained cloth as well

Hope you are ok, Bugs?

That would make a good reason to take a day's sickie - 'I was slapped in the face by a flapping Treacle'!

Just don't buy a Treacle They really are safe. You could look out for especially docile (often heavier) breeds, and your children need not be the ones to pick them up at least to begin with (unless you're scared of a chicken, Tahir )

If anyone expressed any suspicion I could just invite them around and leave them in the greenhouse with an unfed Treacle for ten minutes. Scary bird.

That's a good tip Moggins...I often threaten them with a casserole, but I think this one knows she's far too big for that kind of thing. I'd better get out the Meat Book and leave it propped open at the page about dealing with chickens

Thats funny Nanny, my friend once had a frozen chicken drop out of the sky and land on his car roof. It put a huge dent in the roof and he had to claim on the insurance. To this day he doesn't know how the frozen chicken managed to fly .
