Here's a really cheap and simple way to make a rustic hanging rack that looks great in a farmhouse kitchen!
First you need an old potato or soil riddle or seive. The kind you see at boot fairs or find in the back of the garden shed! The bigger the seive the better!They usually have wooden circular frames with heavy weight weld mesh inners.
I bought mine for the pricely sum of one pound from a boot fair!
When you get it home give the metal grid area a wire brush over to remove loose rust and either leave it as it is or paint with hammerite metal paint.
Then wax the wooden circular frame with clear or tinted wax.
I used clear to allow the patina of the wood to show.
Finally you need to attach four lengths of chain to the the mesh to hang it from the ceiling from. This is available from most hardware stores and do it yourself stores!
Place it equal distants apart around the edge of the mesh.
I used some screw up links to attach my chains to the mesh. I bought these at the hardware store.
Then just add some butchers hooks to the mesh and hay presto a hanging rack for pans herbs or baskets etc . It really very effective and costs next to nothing!
Hint ; Do make sure if you are hanging anything heavy from it that it is securely fixed to the beams or joists in your ceiling!

WARNING: don't try this if, like me, you live in a gamekeeper's cottage: the ceilings are low enough to be a hazard already!
No most definately for the farmhouse size kitchen with plenty of head room!

Our ceilings are so low I change lightbulbs just standing on the floor, and my son can only stand up between the beams.
However, I think I might try a hanging rack in the kitchen in the corner above the work surface: a space heads can't get into, but where some hanging storage would be very useful. Especially if I can make it revolve...
I dont own a digital camera! But I do borrow one sometimes so will post a piccy when I can!
