Dog owner Clive Anderson takes a sideways look at how the invention of processed dog food in the nineteenth century helped turn man's best friend from bone-eating animal into pampered pooch. The dog food pioneer was Charles Cruft, and he created his famous dog show as a marketing tool. As Anderson discovers, countries like India are going through the same process now, but as sale of dog food boom in the East, in the West it is facing a backlash, with calls for a return to "raw meaty bones".
