Than when you notice the storms have knocked the baby pumpkins off your plant.

I've never known that to happen unless the plant was going to abort them anyway.
Days off rain can prevent pollination leading to dropped fruit, is that what you're describing?

Yes, looks like that's what happened. They were only wee little things, but I saw the bees busy on the flowers today, so hopefully more will come.

Oh dear, that is a shame. I am not sure if my pattypan squash is going to produce, as every time I think it has set something, it seems it hasn't. The butternut squash is going rampant, but I am not sure if it is going to produce anything. There have been a few male flowers, but no females yet. I don't seem to have much luck with them, and this one was from a squash seed, so not the best chance anyway.

All is not lost! I have a wonderful Mexican squash blossom soup recipe, very tasty.

The blossoms may also be stuffed, batter dipped and fried . . .

Thanks Jam Lady.

Using the male flowers seems a good idea, but even with 4 plants I can't see myself having large amounts of flower. Still, an alternative to letting them just rot or composting them.

Many recipes out there but basically you stuff flowers with a spoonful of ricotta beaten with egg yolk and seasoning, dip in thin batter, then fry. Two or three per person makes a nice serving as a side dish.

Thanks. I might try a variation on that with my own cottage cheese next time I have some off milk. I have been looking up ricotta, and it seems it can be used interchangeably with cottage cheese although they are not really the same.

That is very saddening Wishus.

Doing okay with squashes. I've got about 6 ripening fruits at the moment, off 6 plants. Not sure if that's a good output per plant but I'm happy. I pollinated one of them myself, so I can save some seed for next year if we like it.

Looking forward to it.

I finally have a female flower on my trifid butternut squash, but not sure if anything will come of it. There is also one pattipan squash growing nicely, and after losing several, think there are others that have set.

Our aubergines failed as did the courgettes which is quite an achievement. So did the cauliflower But a lot worked and lessons learned.
