Just look through the stats on how well articles are doing or not!

and I saw that this one of mine;

https://www.downsizer.net/Projects/Curing_and_Smoking/Smoking_times_with_portions_and_a_small_smoker/

is doing very badly

Have a look and you will see it does everything wrong technically! This is a great example of how not to write for the site.

Sure this isn't just a cunning way of getting more views for your article?

(If it was, I fell for it )

It's short (not bad in itself), no headings, no pics, doesn't really tell you what it's about in the first par. What else?

It needs more than a quick pick me up

I will be rewriting properly. This was one of the first articles on the site when we needed stuff quickly which is my excuse for it. But it goes to show the the first articles have no great advantage, quality is what matters.

So what will you be looking at changing/adding in the rewrite, or is it mainly a matter of making it more comprehensive?

This is a good place to point out that anyone who wants to update their articles can do so, I think.

It does need to be more comprehensive and divided into the intro and read more. It does need headers or it will not be seen by search engines.
I bet it lacks "meta data" though this is not a big issue.

But all things combined a subject that could be useful material ends up practically unread. It is a bit of an object lesson that we need both good material and good expertise in presenting it.

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks.

The "lame" article has been improved just a little, but has a couple of headings loaded with keywords and has meta data.

It currently ranks 39th most viewed article.
