That looks like a great idea, I must agree.

I am a member of BookCrossing.com, but find it difficult to navigate quickly and easily, and a total pain in the bazoo if you want to "release a book into the wild"

Still, plenty of other people don't have the same problems as me so don't let my attitude put you off ...!

However - to use MyBookYourBook costs on average �1.50 per book - which is about the norm for buying a decent book in many charity shops these days

I hope a lot of people enjoy it, but its not for me. A lot of the pleasure for me is in collecting books. I read them more than once, and lend them out to so many people, sometimes I feel like a library, and I have to keep a little (erm) book of who's got what, so I can keep track!

I'm a bit of a Thatcherite when it comes to books. I want them, I keep them, thay are mine, they stay on my shelves, mine, mine, mine, get down the library if you want to read it you commie...... ...er scuse me while I slap myself.

I know what you mean behemoth I am happy to lend other people my books but I like to own them its better that way then if I want to read them again I can I do try every christmas to have an asses and give to a charity shop all those books I probably don't need to keep though but it is difficult

We have a good book release system at work - the shelf in the lunch room. It works well as we all enjoy a good murder on the bus.

Mmm, books are my weakness too - I know that I really should give them away once I'm finished with them, but I just can't bring myself to do it....had over 4000 at the last count!! Doesn't help that both myself and my husband are amatuer writers so our excuse is that we need them all for reference!!

Well there was me posting this expecting a completely different response - to be honest thats why I just said it looked interesting.

I will confess that I too have a problem with releasing books to others - I have far too many cookbooks, almost every Terry Pratchett book released and as for other scifi well we just won't go there OK !!!!!!!

There is part of me that says - yes its a good idea and I should let some of my books go but there is a stronger part of me shouting very loudly "NO NO NO NO - Buy more books you don't have enough yet - don't let any go"

One of the reasons I don't use the library very much is that if I find a book I really really like I then have to go and buy the damm thing anyway

One of the best ways to free up books you don't want any more is to give them to charity shops. It's free, and you're helping a good cause.
We have problems with storing all the books we want to keep, but every so often we have a purge and get rid of the ones we bought thinking they might be good but they weren't, or the ones we don't want to re-read or no longer have a use for. Charity shops are always glad of books because they usually have people who come in regularly and like to see some new stock on the shelves. (If possible I try to give them to small independent charities like the local hospice shop or animal shelter, etc. which don't have the same support networks as the big national charities and often have to work harder for what funds they raise.

I can't let them go either! I've restricted myself to my one book case. Then there's the shelf in the dining room for my cook books - and maybe if I squeeze the stereo down a shelf I could move the reference books from the book case to that shelf making more room there! My mum & I swap loads of books and pass them on to friends too.
