Can anyone recommend a good cheap grease gun. A quick search on amazon suggested all the cheap ones were very poor quality

Look in farm sales, tool auctions, car boot sales etc. Good quality ones cost.

Seems that you get what you pay for. Our combine has hundreds of nipples that need greasing every day during harvest and my farmer has thrown many, many cheap guns across the yard with accompanying oaths. Buy the best you can afford and try to avoid plastic.
