Well, I went and did it.

Nice size, with a shed. Covered in dried up dead fat hen and sweetcorn. Not any really nasty spreading weeds that I can make out, so it should be OK. No taps nearby, but some pumps down the way; watering on all Cambridge allotments is done this way, they're all on water meters.

The fat hen will come out easy, as will the sweetcorn, but as the fat hen seeded profusely it'll come back again and again. Much hoeing ahead of me, I think. Once it's out, I'll rotivate.

Now all I need is to bribe a mate to help me acquire scraps of wood and as much manure (in various states of rotting) as possible. I've managed to acquire a hell of a lot of polythene sheeting already, for as many cloches as I can make and maybe even a little poly tunnel...

Congratulations, Cab. Hope you find some free edible goodies hidden away before you finish clearing it! When I had mine i had raspberries and gooseberries hidden away in the long grass
