Probably mentioned this last year, but if you've got access to Asian supermarkets, pomegranates are in season, and can be pretty cheap.

According to some, also symbolic at this sort of time of year (myth of Persephone, snatched down to Hades by Pluto, eats pomegranate, has to stay in the Underworld until her mother, Ceres persuades Pluto to let her out for 6 months of the year >>> hence the growing seasons as we know them)

They can be grown in the UK as well, we have four little shrubs that seem hardy in the last winter. There's a chance of them fruiting in a few years time.
