Sorry about the short outage. I have enquired of our hosts what the reason was?

I am also making enquiries about getting a semi dedicated server from them, though this may not be quite affordable as yet.

Actually typcial of f5hosting, I have just had a reply to say it was a rack power problem. f5hosting are very fast on support they also say that the server has been up constantly apart from this, and so other brief outages a few people have reported are probably down to the usual isp/routing type issues we all see now and again on the net.

Another reply from f5 says that the server had been up for 100 days, but with the odd minute or so of outage when some processes had to be rebooted.

This fits in with what I have seen.

There is a bug in PHP 4.3.10 (which is necessary for security) which causes load spikes. There is nothing we can do about this until they release 4.3.11. There is a fix in CVS, but we can't run a CVS snapshot on a production server.

I also have a ticket in with the NOC. There was a problem with the power outlet for Pluto Saturday night. They said they fixed it, but the server has gone down and come up on it's own in the middle of the night each of the last two nights. I'm having them check out the power outlet again.

But it is explained and will therefore be fixed.

I am much happier knowing the score

I would guess though that "check out the power outlet" may well mean we take another dive

Mike claims the servers are in a dedicated data centre, but I suspect him claim to be a middle aged network engineer are a lie, and the server is in his bedroom and gets unplugged when his mum does the vaccuming
