The trading post is now the first one I check however, I think as so much of the ethos of this site is on trading, that the 'Trading Post' should be upgraded to a section in the forum with further subdivisions (ie a section for running the trading post, as many of the topics have been on this theme recently, as well as sections for livestock, meat, gardening, etc.) as some items for sale can quickly get pushed down the list as they don't attract that many replies, whilst the advert value of them are still valid.

I just thought if it were more organised, perhaps it would attract more people to trade?

I could definitely see the point in seperating non financial transactions from financial ones: Trading Post and Swap Shop

Yes, and some separation of actual trading and talk about trading/the nature of the site.

that's true

So maybe:

Trading Post
items for sale

Swap Shop
items for barter or free

Technical
Where to put your post, how it works etc.

The talk about the trading should probably be in guidelines announcements suggestions.

I'm up for a whole separate section for trading. We could start off as T says with swaps (wasn't it originally briefly called that?) and traders for money. Likely we would only need to further divide the traders bit. An interim solution might be a convention for labelling posts: (I sound like I have one of those charts you use in meetings) eg food or meat, crafts, services etc?

On the main site under traders we have 6 categories. 5 of which are actual trading categories.

So allowing from a swap categorie, we would need 6 forums to reflect that. It might be a larger number of forums, but I think it makes much more sense to complement the site structure logically.

Very true- it may work both ways too- encouraging use of the main site as well as the forum if there is some continuity between the two.

I put them in thre trading section to get people to talk about them. If they were in the guidles/announcment section I don't think we would have had as much feedback. It was also a good way to bring a little attention to this section, which seems to have worked.
