Looking for an online suppiler or someone local to SW Cheshire. Rather buy from a place someone recommends than plucking one from an ad so does anyone know a good place to deal with, looking for hedging plants and large oak/ash saplings (6-10ft)

cheers

If you're looking for large quantities, have a look at Alba trees/Alba nurseries. They are based in Scotland (as you might guess from the name) but if I remember rightly they have some choice in some of the more common natives as to whereabouts in the UK the nursery stock is from. I haven't used them personally but did a good deal of research recently and their name came up again and again - I also believe but you might want to check, that they supply the trees sold in the Woodland Trusts name - basically Woodland Trusts site is the retail/small quantities version and you go direct to Alba if you need more. I think. You will want to check though.

Failing that I don't think Tahir is about today but when he turns up again he might have some suggestions, as he's been looking for all sorts recently too.

I've only ever bought trees in this or adjacent regions (Ayrshire / Borders), but I wonder whether the same (folk wisdom ??) holds true as for roses and sheep : if you buy them from further north than where you live, they will be tougher and do better in your presumably milder climate.

200m of new stock hedge with 20 trees in it, maybe more hedge plants to fill in the holes around the current hedges
