You can backup your outlook stuff too, I used to, but I'm buggered if I can remember where the files were. I'll have a poke around and get back to you.

If you go: Tools -> Options -> Maintenance -> Store Folder in Outlook Express this will show you where your messages etc are being stored, back up this directory.

There's an outlook.pst file where outlook stores all its information - usually at:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
and you can back that up.

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites if you use ie. I think you can export them from firefox, but am not sure.

I'm currently using www.bookmax.net for my bookmarks - you can import and export to/from there once you register (it's free). I find it very useful - especially as you always have access to your bookmarks no matter which computer or browser you use.

Thanks Neil. I guess this is an online facility. If I had my bookmarks here, would I be able to import them back to an e mail server if I did go for the clean install option.

If you're going to the lengths of removing everything it may be worth checking for a bios upgrade. That can also help but I wouldn't try it unless I've backed everything up first.

Another question on this general theme. If I did reinstall, would it be better to get a new harddrive, and start again, so as not to lose that all important document. How can I check what hardware I have, like the motherboard and bios chip and video card, so I can see if they have the up to date drivers.

What i tend to do, is get a new hard drive, they are very cheap after all, then install the new drive as "master" with the old once slave. When you reinstall windows, this won't mean you have all the old applications etc, but at least the documents, favourites etc, can be rescued.

You'd know the cashpoint in Abbey Meads Village centre. An MFC error was on screen.

Not as good as the error inthe local butchers........when using digital, computerised scales for the first time........................... my sausages should have been �3.00...........instead he announced �3,000 .......................... I laughed!
