I'm fairly certain that the CofE wedding service has a bit in it about the purpose of marriage being procreation. If you're buying into that surely it's really strange to ban the results.

One of my sisters said no children at here wedding and it was fairly well recieved. I think I can see both points of view it is nice to have children having fun at celebrations but especially if you know some of your relatives children are terribly behaved and their parents don't control them then its easier to say no to everyones children than to one families and it means you can enjoy your wedding rather than worrying about the screaming some children are doing

at the end of the day a wedding should be about the two people who are getting married enjoying themselves and if anyone disagrees with how they intend to do that they don't have to attend

You've got a point, still think it's sad though

certainly what I think is really sad is that the way these days some parents and people treat children very differently that they used to which manys many children have even shorter attention spans than we used to and aren't used to either sitting quietly or occupying themselves which of course only excaerbates issues like this

Exactly - they are a bit serious and religious about the whole thing. But that's what they want, which is fine by me. To be fair, they have been very understanding of the sort of things we want, so they obviously have a similar view, but the no kids thing is now causing family ructions. Initially I thought it was a bit unfair, as you can't get a babysitter for an afternoon on the other side of the country (I am assuming they will be allowed at the reception) but then all the families have another set of grandparents etc who could sit overnight. I am staying well clear of it. Personally I think a wedding should be joyfull occassion for families. To them it's quite a serious religous commitment. As himself and I have been together for ten years, and living in sin for 5, we reckon we've earned a party, and things like white dresses might be taking mickey a bit!

Himself and I have agreed that we want it to be fun and a big celebration. This is really weird, as we don't usually agree on anything! Trouble is we now need to be a bit tactful in order not to rock the boat. I think I'll just include the children's names on the invites - putting 'children welcome' might be a little bit undiplomatic!

Our church is full of kids. The minister gets them all up the front for a talk every sunday, we even had Mary riding around on a bmx for the nativity.

Prevented nasty donkey poo incidents though.

Just a thought, but how odd is it that a thread entitled 'Storecupboard cookery' turns into a discussion about small people in the public environment....

I came to this thread a bit late and had intended to post recipes but the thread was now nothing to do with cooking so I joined in the current conversation instead

For the record I believe I was the last person to post a recipe on this thread. And it involved cheap ingredients.

So ya boo sucks to tahir.

I'm making stew tonight using shin of beef. It gives a wonderful thickness and sheen to the liquid.

We went to a friends house a few weeks ago. She had made a casserole using fillet and was very proud that they had used it too - privately, I thought it an utter waste of meat in such a dish.

Why is there a trend to use expensive ingredients when the cheaper ones often provide a far better result?

Tahir - you can make my tomato dish for supper tonight as punishment
