We have had a few problems marrying up the architects 'designer eye' and some control over cost of materials - he wants to throw the most expensive outside tiles, and very expensive light savers at us etc...

My faith in human kindness has been restored - went round to a couple of houses who I know have had extensions in the last 6 months and asked them to ring me if they felt they could recommend their builder - one of them rang last night and recommended his builder and also offered us his plans - which we don't need but nice of him

Is it a rule of thumb that an extension with foundation work will generally cost more than one without or is that rubbish??

I've never known a builder dig holes for nowt so I supsect it'll cost more. Strangely the fellas who work on our pipes take the same attitude.
