Could I just point you to my post above? I don't think labelling of anyone helps a discussion such as this.

I have trapped many a mink and humainly despatched it. you cannot guarantee a clean kill with an Air rifle as they bob thier heads too much and what with constant irratic movement make for near on impossible shot so trapping them is the only method. They are also vicious little gits and should not be underestimated in that cage.

When trapped in a cage it will do all it can to get out as it is in fear, rightly, of its life.

AIR RIFLE?????

Who on earth would try shooting them with an air rifle - have you any idea just how thick their fur is?

Trapping is the only method?? Really??

Illegal hunting is a definate no go in my opinion. Not only would you get done for armed trespass, carrying a fire arm in a public place loaded or un loaded it still a nick. Its not worth it. 5 grand fine and or a 5 year jail term.... no thanks get a permission if you dont get one dont even think about taking that gun onto someones land.

Mate, a modern full power .22 or .177 will have no problem instantly killing a mink with a head shot, like I said the problem with shooting mink is thier erratic movements makes getting a good bead difficult. Please please do not lecture me on something I have done for years. As my old dad used to say "dont tell me how to suck eggs"

Not by using gin traps as I have seen.

What's a gin trap? I (and I believe bodger and SC) am advocating responsible means of pest control, not killing for a laugh.

A particularly barbaric, now illegal, piece of kit whereby the animal is caught, supposedly by the leg, but can be by the head, jaw or almost anything. It is held by a sprung trap with jaws that are flesh piercing and is designed top hold the animal until the 'hunter' comes to put it out of its misery. Often seen hanging up in old pubs.

But as you say now illegal, that applies to most overtly cruel methods of pest control nowadays, even for rats/mice etc.

Rat poison is cruel. nasty stuff causing the rat to seek water which makes the poison explode causing an agonising death for said scally tail. but whats the alternative? an instant death from a hollow point air pellet in his bonce!

Youv'e been reading and believing too much of your own propaganda !

In just about all corners of the UK foxes are wall to wall . No need to import any at all
Infact the total opposite occurs in our neck of the woods and in other rural areas.
Certain misguided groups have been dropping off presumably rescued city foxes for in excess of 25 years.
These foxes are quite often mange ridden and totally unprepared for country life ( like some people I know )
Their lives tend to be pretty short. They have been known to come running to the clang of a bucket and a farmer I know had one follow him up the lane and into his yard.Guess what happened to that one.
What proof have I ? last year a mate actually shot three of them with flea collars on.
What effect has this on our fox population apart from giving it a temporary boost.? A big increase in sick foxes suffering with mange and an increase in day time poultry raids from foxes that no longer fear man.
Hooray Henries releasing foxes into the wild for hunting purposes. Please deal in facts and not myths.

Bodger

This is not really the thread for this, but:

There are no known reported cases of wild foxes being let loose or re-located by 'antis' or any similar such animal welfare group. All such cases cannot be verified.

It is a fact that certain hunts do breed and release foxes for hunting purposes ( or did)

The fact they are still used illegally is not an arguement in this case surely

Silas I've seen it with my own eyes! I might be many things but I'm not a liar.

I'm sure that you have verifiable proof of your claim that Hooray Henrys as you call them release foxes into the wild for hunting purposes.

If you really want proof, I'm sure that I can arrange some for you this Winter.

I repeat. I've seen it with my own eyes and there are a number of people ( not hunters) who have also seen vans full of foxes from away.
