Anybody read the article abot the animal rights protesters who attacked anglers. If I can find a copy that will paste I will put it on here, The anti's broke up rods, threatened anglers with bats and lumps of wood, wven punched a women angler in the face, and the local constabulary did nothing, there was a easy assault charge there for a start. whats it coming to when you can no longer enjoy your sport.

I remember when I was out decoying pigeons a few months back and a couple of do good ramblers saw my gun then clocked the decoys and when I wasn't watching they tried to shoo the decoys away, idiots.

If I can get that article on here I will, I'm sure it will annoy you fishing types, it did me and I dont fish(yet)

Here you go....

Read article below....

A gang of masked animal rights activists has attacked a group of anglers, prompting fears that extremists are determined to widen the scope of their campaign of intimidation.

The 35 masked extremists had earlier disrupted a grouse shoot before being moved on by police.

A handful of people, some of them families, was enjoying a day out at the Bank House fly fishery, at Caton, near Lancaster, when the saboteurs arrived.

Lucy Belson, of Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, was fishing with a friend when they suddenly found themselves at the mercy of the gang.

"They began throwing stones at my rod and one of them said, 'It's the easy way or the hard way. You've been sabbed.' They told me to pack up and go or I was 'going to get wet'."

Fighting broke out as two anglers on a nearby stretch of bank struggled with the protesters. Miss Belson, a resuscitation nurse at Westmorland General Hospital, in Kendal, said: "I decided to get out of there and go home but suddenly they all ran towards me waving bats and blocks of wood, shouting, 'Get her'. "I was jostled and they smashed my fishing rod."

As she broke away from the melee, Miss Belson saw another woman being punched in the face and several cars being vandalised.

"I was shaken at the time but now I am angry," she said. "They are cowards and I certainly won't be frightened to go back to the lake. I love fishing and I have been doing it since I was a little girl."

Lancashire police believe that the anglers were the victims of an opportunistic attack. Earlier in the day the saboteurs had tried to disrupt a grouse shoot at Lowgill, near High Bentham.

At the height of the confrontation, police called in the force helicopter, an armed response vehicle and nine other vehicles. However, there were no arrests and the saboteurs headed away.

Pc Duncan Thomas, the force's wildlife officer, said that saboteurs were increasingly attacking anglers.

"Both anglers and grouse shooting parties should be aware of the threat to them and they should have contingencies in place to protect themselves."

A Countryside Alliance spokesman said: "It does seem to be the way animal rights extremists are heading. Their issue is not animal welfare - it is about hating people. They simply want to cause trouble."

Last year animal extremists attacked anglers on the Grand Union canal, in Milton Keynes. Some of the fishermen were thrown into the water.

Tom Fell, the regional director of the Countryside Alliance for Cumbria, said: "These people will stop at nothing to achieve their ends. They are a real worry and a real danger."

im in a bit off an odd position with this cos i was anti fox hunts (lamping gets the culprits ),i dont sport fish cos i think it cruel ,i get food in a fairly ruthless and efficient manner ie drag it in and kill it .i treat cqb in the same way and i know the strengths and weaknesses of sabs . i can see part of their view as valid ,part not.
i have seen much unnesscessary cruelty to fish and other critters but i treat all prey with respect .
whatever the reason anyone offering violence when i am not is in danger of a vigourous response .i have always found a few reasoned words more effective than low level intimidation .if you can turn your foe into your asset etc .
good folk on both sides have more in common than they would expect .
anti fishing folk may like to see some of the fishy threads on here

As the article states though these "animal rights protesters" seemed more inclined to want to give someone a kicking more than the cause they fight for.

Because if it was published by the CA it is almost certainly untrue, or at the very least exaggerated beyond measure.

I want to verify the facts.

Is it that important? I found it on a site, I thought it a good subject so posted it in the relevent section on here. If you want to do your colombo bit then google is your friend, but I will not aid you in turning this thread into a rant.

In future could people just summarise an article and post a link rather than copy, for copyright reasons. Thanks.

Well, it's published by one of the main broadsheet papers with quotes from the police and CA so I assume you're now happy about the facts?

I would only fish for the pot myself but if what someone is doing is legal then any interferance/assault should be delt with by the police just like any other crime don't you think?

Absolutely. Could not agree more.

I am asking for a reference, now I have one. Thank you.

If you post an article by another author, the least you can do is site a reference, if only for good manners sake.

I would be wary of believing all that is published on the Internet, some article, believe it or not, are not completely accurate.
