aww luna is lovely, nice name too : ) beckyess - you can have really dark sable ones, with masks that cover a lot of the face, and if they have a dark nose too they look kind of black. i want a sable jill boohoohoo

My ferrets are also very cute and friendly, they get lots of cuddling but also get to carry out the task that they were originally bred to do !

Having read my previous post, it may have seemed I was having a pop at the ladies and their beautiful ferrets.
What I really meant to say was that as long as the creatures are kept well it shouldn't matter whether they are kept in pet homes or working homes.
Being kept as a pet doesn't guarentee a ferret a good home anymore than or less than being kept in a hunting home.

I think if you look after them well, like you say Bodger, it doesn't matter if they are a house pet or hunting pet, or whatever.
But the only way I have seen ferrets kept around these parts is locked in a tiny rabbit hutch with wood shavings. And when I take mine for a walk, I get to odd chav coming up to me (can of carling in hand usually) saying 'oy mate, got a ferret i can 'ave?'
which annoys me no end. It's the same mentality that people who want to have snakes and tarantulas have - lets have the animals, not for their sakes, but to make us look 'tough'.
But I am well aware, that anyone on a downsizing forum, who take pictures of their ferts must respect them lots : ) yay!

The trouble is AS, as you and I know, ferrets are too cheap and easily available . Not that money counts but if you think that idiots mistreat dogs that cost hundreds of pounds then the poor humble ferret hasn't got a chance !

I have a pair of these cute little cleaver intelligent creatures, and they are a bit older then 1 yea.... somthing like a year and a half.
this is her second litter. the first she had 8 and now 10. 4 coloured and the rest albino. still are with closed eyes and they are nearly a month old.
The worst one i had now was not long ago. I was cleaning her cage when suddenly she bit me in the ear and hanged there like a piercing....Ouch!!!!
(do they do it to you aswell?)

We got our boy from ferret rescue and paid �40 for him! We love him to bits. Been too scared to put him down a rabbit hole as don't want to lose him. The dog is fine with him and vice versa, he tried to eat the goat kids though! (the ferret, not the dog)
