13 born in the night - 1 dead, 1 struggling and one so tiny that it's unlikely to survive. If they were lambs I'd bring them in and bottle feed them goats milk. Is there any point doing that with pigs?

HardWorkingHippy had a similar situation a few weeks back after a bad farrowing, I think she said the pigling needs very short almost high pressure feeds to mimic what its mum would do. I'll try to find the thread if I can remember what it was called

A quick google suggest yes, and using goat milk. Good luck. Sorry, haven't time to find details.

Awwwwwwww! You have piglets! I'm so jealous!

Good luck with them. I hope the rest make it. (Can't actually be useful - sorry- the closest I have come to piglets is my Mum's Jack Russell puppey!)

Hi,
We sell goats milk to a local breeder all the time. They feed them by hand with bottles. I would personaly get a nipple bar / buckets system (thats what we do for orphan lambs & our goat kids) so they eat more & free up your time. Use warm milk at first but its easier if you can slowly get them used to cold milk.

Justme

PS they feed 16 odd times per day to start with good luck...... Just as you finish the last one its time to start again (see the benifiet of the nipple bar)

We're hand rearing one on cows milk at the moment (would prefer goats but since we've not got the latter at the moment), though he was a week old when he came off mother, so he'd got all the goodness from her colostrum. If they haven't had that first feed there's rarely much point.

This one should go back to mother soon but in the meantime he feeds well enough from a 10ml syringe three times a day.

The new neighbour came round just as we were setting up a light box so I've only been able to get back up to the piglets now. The one that looked dead is up and trotting around as is the tiny little runt This is the sows 1st litter though so we'll keep a close eye on them and if they look like they're failing again I'll nip them down to the house and fed them with the goats milk.

We've already got 5 Tamworth piglets - this makes a total of 17 piglets

That's a lot of piglets. How many do you reckon you'll keep? (Sorry, don't answer that at the moment, you're probably a bit busy.)

I normally leave them to the mother to sort out, she knws best what to do. But goats milk will bring them on good. Try not to seperate him to much from the mother as he will lose "his teat" and will truggle later on, meaning you'll more than likely end up feding him for 6 weeks or more. When they are ready to start on food, put a little goats milk on the food, it will encourage them to eat it.
