Bdv's issue is probably that he doesn't take a swipe of the credit card from most guests. You should, as a deposit against Stuff. It's standard, and people won't blink at doing it.

This seems to me better than a fine, as you are reflecting the cost you incur rather than getting on a soap box.

True, although I don't like getting on my soap box. I'd much rather get together all the fun stuff that's in fags, light all the solid stuff and stuff it in their gobs, and inject them with the liquid parts, but for some reason this is frowned upon by the courts.

See, they would really irritate me even though I don't smoke. And I would then have to force-feed you ribena. And to make things really bad, I'd sit sipping a classy glass of Vimto as you glugged away.

"That" or "They" at the start...?

Thing is, whilst I strongly disagree with people making the misguided, and wholly wrong, choice to drink ribena it has very little direct effect on me when they do. It doesn't smell bloomin' aweful at a range of more than a couple of meters; it doesn't pump out carbon monoxide; it doesn't leave a sticky layer of tar all over the place during normal consumption; it doesn't create a huge black market; and it doesn't lead to chronic health conditions (metal asside).

IMnvHO smoking is one of the most ignorant and anti-social acts people engage in.

And tobacco is more or less the only product on the market that when used according to the producers instructions has a high probability of killing you and those around you.

Thinking about it in those terms, its just insane.

So... What to do to stop people smoking in their rooms... Dunno, sorry, I don't have a good answer to that. The cleaning charge mentioned by Hedgewitch is as good an idea as I've heard.

"That".

In the third line, below, "awful" or "aweful"?

Final two words, "metal asside" or "mental aside"?

Wasn't having a go, it's just you could read it both ways with slight meaning changes.

Probably awful, and mental aside.

What about some kind of notice in each room implying that smoking will, indeed, set off all of the very sensitive fire alarms in the building? Whether or not it does? And I like the fining idea as well. (Although not as much as the death ray ...).

What about saving your worse bedroom for smokers? In fact make a realy crap bedroom to show them & they can then chose a nice bedroom & not to smoke or a crap bedroom. OR offer them a smoking bedroom but charge them an extra say 50% for it.

I think BVD and I both have a no smoking facility completely, and it would be on all advertising, and all doors when entering the building.

The type of people who do smoke chose to disregard all this regardless of what type of establishment it is.

Fortunately it doesn't happen very often here, but it is still anoying when it does.

Exactly. They think they can stand and smoke by an open window and I won't notice. They must think I"m daft.
