sugar should be no more than 10% of your energy intake.....
( Non milk extrinsic sugars to be exact )

sunflower oil is one of the good ones, but olive and rapeseed are possibly better.

No Ros, you are right, cholesterol in food does not translate to cholesterol in the blood. That would be far too logical and sensible

The things that affect cholesterol are : ( no particular order )

overall fat and oil intake - < 35% energy intake
fibre and wholegrain intake - at least 3 portions a day
fruit and veg intake - 5 a day
the amount of exersise you do - at least 30 mins
your genes - hard to change these !
your weight - aim for a healthy weight BMI 20-25

Hope this helps....

and 12 bore - your GP needs shooting for such wrong advice

Sunflower oil..... hmm... looking through notes from course (re-Diabetes).... worst are lard, then butter, then sunflower oil, then olive oil, and rapeseed oil is best - with a couple of others (including walnut oil) being on a par with rapeseed.

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately, living in Italy, I say that every year comes to a fraud inherent the olive oil.
This year we thought the NYT. An article that has sparked much controversy here in Italy. But it must be said that the issue of fraud concerns not only the olive oil, but also pasta and canned tomatoes.
Also a problem for the tourists (who do not know the warnings that we use consumers) who are eating the food that of "Italian" has very little!

For the cholesterol problem I know that extra virgin oil has many beneficial qualities and consumed raw is good!
It is not good for frying though!
