I reckon that by the time the nests have been made and the hen has had a while to sit on the eggs etc any wool would be nicely compacted down. Could explain what happened with your little birdie Judy!

Youv'e got a point there, sitting on the eggs for a while would contribute to a fairly compacted, possibly felted (warmth, a bit of rain getting through perhaps) interior.

These blue tits were in a basin, which we upturned this morning - we put it back after taking the pic bien sur! This wool was re-re cycled from the postbox pic posted earlier. HWH
