Went to view a place yesterday that had a broody goose in a field, the gander was extremely protective and came staright for us at high velocity, I jumped the fence, what could I have done to deter the bugger? The next field was full of bull calves and they all (about 20 of 'em) just followed us around the whole field. I don't think I'm cut out to keep livestock

I was told that if you're chrged by a goose then you should grab it my the neck just behind, the head, and hold it down for a few seconds. It should then get the idea of who's bigger and stay away from you. As to grabbing it while it's charging you...

Hehe, I had to jump a gate once because of a goose - put me in a field of stampeeding horses any day!

Well one thing you shouldn't do is run away, move toward it and try to put youre hand behind its head, it will then worry about what youre hand is doing and leave the rest of you alone.

Cows are very inquisitive, once you start backing away from them they want to be nearer to see what is going on. Agree with the comments about the goose, then again, when you are in a panic the last thing you think about is grabbing anything behind the head. Hey, Tahir, I wonder if any agricultural colleges do a one day livestock handling course.

I am, they can be very aggresive especially when they have young, my wifes mother used to have 3 of them and the hand thing worked everytime. Honest!

They may well do, if I ever get any flippin land I'll consider it but only if it's over 15 acres, up to 15 acres the only livestock I'd have are chickens

There were loads of geese on the farm where I grew up, I was too busy doing a Tahir to stop and try the hand thing, of course when I was a kid I used to wear a fetching pair of black wellies as I waddled round the yard (I am talking young, here!) and the bloomin' things used to nip the back of my legs
