Thos, they're sensible prices! Up here you could treble them and think of a number and add a bit!

Isn't it, though? And I've stayed there, so i've a bit more of an idea than the last one I was interested in!!!The village is stunning, and quite high up so not much of a flood risk. Needless to say the surrounding countryside is breathtaking.

What, nobody's bought the manor house yet? Its cheaper than Twoscoop's pub and has 12 acres.

Twoscoops' Pub. I like the sound of that.

It must be fate - there is one (singular!) job I am qualified to do in this weeks press, and its in north devon! I'll live without London weighting! How far is north devon away from the sea?!

Oh - and is it hard to get plumbers down there?

Depends where the job is. Barnstaple?
The only plumber we've managed to get to do any work for us moved down from Tooting.

OH is (nearly) one - so if I got a job down there, there'd be plenty of work for him. I'm presuming that the job is based at the north devon district in barnstaple. Is it nice there?

Even our home-made chips are not very nice. We only buy Bintjes, because they are the only potato that Terri and I both like. They are fantastic boiled, mashed and roasted, but do not chip well.

Have you tried potatoe wedges with them? I just mix up wedge shaped spuds with garlic olive oil and herbs, and bung them in the oven for half an hour. They're not quite chips, but
the closest we get - really good with salsa and cheese, too.

The hospital is alright, in my limited experience. Barnstaple itself is nothing special, though it has a good market/butchers' row. It's near lots of nice places, including the sea.

That's what we do. Healthier as well. I'd just like some decent chips occasionally.

Perhaps it might be worth growing some KEs or equivalent just for chips.

For chips Duke of York (a Dutch variety) and Yukon Gold are both excellent if you can get 'em

The Pilton Hilton, as it is dryly referred to by the locals. Barnstaple is OK, but there is some amazing scenery close by.

Where should I start looking for houses then? Amazingly, himself has not laughed the idea out of the water immediately! I'd need to be within half an hour of the hospital, and not near too many people. Not bothered about a see view.

Ironically, my meat already comes from devon!

The hospital is on the outskirts of town, on the road that splits to Ilfracombe and Combe Martin, IIRC. Have a look at the map, bearing in mind that Barnstaple traffic can be awful if you have to drive through the middle of town, especially from the South Molton-end.

The bopproperty site covers the area reasonably well. I'll get a North Devon Journal at the weekend and stick up some of the other agent's websites. Being a bit further away from the sea gets you a lot more house for your money.
I like Torrington, but I would say that, and it's probably on the outer limits of what you would want to commute.
