Whats wrong with Ibiza!!! I spent a very happy 12 months on the hippy commune in Ibiza in the late 70s.
Peace and love man!

One way to salve your concience is to look at the whole caboodle in a swings and roundabouts sort of way

if you take great pains to minimise your carbon emissions (and impact generally) in the rest of your life then maybe, with the addition of planting trees etc, you can still justify flying ...

i agree that sometimes it seems almost pointless when you see how the rest of the world just carry on regardless (see my earlier thread about neighbours annoying me). as Tahir says, most people don't really give a toss

https://anderson.ath.cx:8000/treesponsibility/holidays/index.html
These have just started up near us so I thought i'd post a link just in case anyone is interested in this kind of holiday. [Treesponsibility have been around for a while but the holidays are a new thing for them]

Haven't been on a plane in fifteen years, and probably never will again. I've lost the desire to holiday abroad (there's so much of this country that I won't have time to see before I die, never mind the rest of the world ). We have a car though, but Phil lives quite happily with just his bike when I'm working (He does six weeks at a time on his own, but we're only five miles from town). I wouldn't give up the car, even if I was just using it as a safety net for emergiencies (midnight vet run, for eg), though we go for days at a time without using it when I'm at home. Have to be honest, it's the fuel cost that stops me using the car so much, rather than a conscious environmental effort on my part, so I guess the goverment is getting that right, however much I moan about it!

im having issues in this type of area...im booked to go on a college trip to new york, which i need to complete my hours in uni. i havent used air travel for 20 years and even then it was only twice.
i use my car daily, but i lift share, holiday share and us ethe car for as many things in one trip as i can.
my main worry is that i will soon need a bigger 4x4 and thats going to be evn worse, has any one had experienc with the gas conversion? my local garage does it but i dont know how economical it really is..

No real first-hand experience, but back when I dived, the guy who used to tow the club boat had a Range Rover with LPG conversion and he wouldn't be without it. Don't know about the green aspect, but from the economic point of view it was well worthwhile by all accounts (and backed up by our share of fuel costs) having seen what the thing guzzled when it was on regular unleaded.

why not holiday at home ? to change from your routine and do things that are fun is a definition of "holiday" arrange for others to deal with your responsibilities and enjoy
