We need some rabbit snares pdq,the little *******are everywhere. All the local agri-merchants are out of stock, and now neither of the boys are home, we don,t have ferrets anymore. Does anyone have any spare? or anywhere they could get some for me? Happy so send a cheque to cover costs.

snaring is hardcore i wont snare unless it is food time snares catch more critters than roger rabbit

Definately agree with Dpack. Rabbit snares don't have a stop on them like fox snares so do strangle & cats will follow rabbit runs. Personally I would only use them as a last resort & only in areas where the cat population is zero. Ask around for someone with a decent air rifle/rifle to control them for you.

Food for thought then, we are over -run with the damn things, and would eat what we caught.There are no cats around, but loads of pheasants. What are the laws re air-rifles? If we got one we could sort out the rat problem. Any info on a good starter air rifle? Sorry if I,ve offended, pure ignorance

re air rifles ,in england 12ft pound (good to 30 metres )is legal for all but bunnies can be cautious
if you can get fac or fast long dog or shotgun ticket( if you can stand the noise) might be best
a good air weapon and sight for nightime is not cheap compared to the firearm route but that depends on you ,the land and how much noise one can tolerate
the ferret boys are quite tidy for vermin control if needed

a while back i thought rabbit cull but now i recon feeding the foxes keeps my chooks safer

No offence taken. I've used wires for foxes but catching an angry badger & having to cut it loose without getting my hands shredded was interesting. This is a good link on snaring rabbits. If you haven't got cats around & done properly it can be an effective & cheap method of control. Rats are easier to snare than rabbits if you don't like poison.

Go to the BASC web site which is the the place for all things shooting in the UK. Lots of advice. Ring them if you're still concerned, confused or just want to be sure what you're doing is safe and legal. Great organisation.

You're more than welcome to borrow my cat and / or my JRT. Both are devoted rabbit hunters and eat what they catch so there's little feeding or clear up costs

David at trap works supplies rabbit snares with a stop , but snaring is not as easy as you think.

you would need more than terriers, very few can actually catch a rabbit, most would use a terrier to flush to a waiting whippet or lurcher
