Don't want to stray even further from the original post but how about a "don't visit a supermarket for a week"

Regards the veggie thing, I'm happy to join in but I'll find it pretty easy as my OH is veggie so most meals tend to be that way anyway. The supermarket thing will take a bit of doing though!

Funny you should mention that, we are hoping to do something along those lines at the end of August.

No meat week would be harder for me. I get Booths Organic milk whenever I'm near them - short of getting it delivered from a local dairy it's the best I know of. I have heard a couple of stories about local daries that make me think twice about using them.

All other fresh stuff comes from farmers' markets so I only use them for tins, shredded wheat and alcohol.

For a minute I thought this was that, and thought, typical, I'm going away! As it will involve a lot of eating out, I will be more or less veggie, anyway, as I don't like the idea of eating factory meat, and assume that unless it says otherwise, it is. this may be unfair, but I doubt it.

I'd go for this if someone could help.

My kitchen is currently gutted - and for the next 2/3 weeks I have only a microwave and a barbeque for cooking on. We're sick of salads and bought cold meats - and cooking in the garden is for weekends in good weather. Lentil recipes anyone? I'd be so grateful.

I'm game (no not a pheasant or hare) for 'veggie for a week' week, and as for supermarkets, after reading 'The Shocking Power of British Supermarkets a couple of months ago I have only entered one once and it would be my last time if only I wasn't so easily seduced by their seductive lighting techniques and strategic product placements.......i think this might be harder than I thought

I'll do it. I gave up meat for lent this year- the first week was hell, OH is Polish so all he wants is Kabanos etc. But he's away for 6 weeks so prob won't be as difficult.
I 'might' do a ban on supermarkets too. I only really use kwiksave anyway as there's one on my street.
It helps that I work in a vegetarian deli which only stocks local produce and fairtrade stuff! I think I've got a head start already...

Laughed so much reading this thread the whole way through! Ye don't know how funny ye sound, 'hijacking' the vegetarian thread to discuss ways of curing meat.

I'm vegetarian anyway. Could we do a vegan week challenge maybe? I'll do that then, for the challenge week.

That's sort of the challenge. For us carnviores you need to force yourself to think veggie to show yourself it can be done.

So my beans are soaking, though as I confessed earlier I have ended up with some left over chicken, which I won't waste, so that will be lunch, so I'll start just a little late.
