I wouldn't expect any regulation on this. As we don't make anything any more a bouyant economy needs people to buy stuff and to keep the money moving around. If we weren't encouraged to buy stuff with credit and keep it all moving we'd be in a recession PDQ.

I don't normally subscribe to conspiracy theories but I don't think 'they' want to push too hard on this issue.

Our local "rag" has twice run stories recently about credit/storecards and the excessive interest charged and the decline in cards opened the week of and the next few weeks was definately noticeable. People clearly do believe everything they read in the paper-usually sadly but in this instance quite amusingly.

That was not one I should know a little about was it? We are targeted as a store at opening a certain number of new cards each week. The idea is that people, once they have the credit will use it. Alot of staff have a big issue selling credit and are not particularly good at it-either by making no effort or because they find it hard to put their heart into something they don't believe in. Or because they are trained in retail sales not financial sales.

Having also worked in retail ith the remit to flog as hard as poss the store cards the main issue f resistance is the embarassment ( SP???) factor of having to push for something they instinctively know is not the main issue ie selling clothes??
