Would one be happy in an east facing (ish) position in the south of England?

I understand they prefer a 'damp' spot, if you have one. Sorry not sure about the sun.

Out of the 3 in the village I worked in the one that did the best was the one in full sun next to the pond....

Hmm. It would be very nearly at the bottom of my garden, which is south facing, but on the side facing east.

The two that were planted in semi shade well drained soil did fine too

nice one mithril, I'm planning to grow a medlar on the allotment - as I can't forget the couple of jars I made several years ago, after finding a tree on a walk whilst visiting friends. I MUST HAVE MEDLAR JELLY FOR BOXING DAY!
