That's what I am thinking, would they not say 'make do with one rifle'? Not only would you have 4 barrells but 4 lots of ammo.

Are you LH?

I'm R/H.

I duess a lot depends on how shooter friendly your local force is, as to what they will or won't allow. In Hampshire I had problems with them from start to finish but in Shropshire it's really easy going and positive. In your case, I guess it's a good idea to join a shooting club, and as such you would argue that the .22 barrels are for target shooting and the .17 for vermin control. If a R/H bolt is going to be a problem, consider settling for a .22LR in semi auto. Less bolt work that way.

I have used .22LR semi-autos at our gun club. I know they are not looked after as if it was your own rifle, but they do jam. Not sure if this is a specific problem. I'd only use it for a couple of animals for the pot at a time so a semi-auto would seem a little OTT.

But even a semi-auto ejects right in front of my nose, so a proper LH bolt action would seem to be the best bet.

Having a spent .22 cartridge on my neck (pinged off a wall) was bad enough. 'Orrible little burn.

Funny thing about shooting military automatic weapons when riding in a Land Rover is the number of hot cases that drop inside your shirt collar, hehehe

Hehe...I had a mental pic of you out there in the bushes, kite sight in use, scouring the hills for Stags or Panthers or summat!

There was clearer demarcation then though: when you rested, you really rested. you took it while you could. At meal times you ate and ate. As a civilian, these boundaries get blurred and confused.

In sanitised modern life I think many of us lack th eopportunity to experience these things. From memory, didn'y George Orwell's 1984 refer to how the state ensured that the masses didn't get to see stuff like disease, death, etc, by tucking it away?
