I'm refusing even to buy potting compost at the mo, just to ensure that I don't inadvertently find myself sowing seeds in a moment of weakness.

I have that problem too! I'm planning to sow all my seeds around three weeks before easter, as I'm off over easter, so I might actually get them planted out. I might put some tomatoes and chillis on earlier, and I am sorely tempted to put some carrots in a box in the bottom of the mini greenhouse (maybe followed by some early started off french beans too) I'm getting carried away again! Potatoes arrived this week to, so I'll get those going in the porch. I love spring (even if it's only indoors!)

Oooh. What potatoes did you get, WW?

Actually I might make this another thread - what's everyone growing this year, kind of ties in with Cab's one about unusual veg.

Don't reply here!

What do I do with the shallots that arrived this week? can I plant them out (It'll have to be in a pot then, as I haven't done any digging yet!) Or can I start them off in paper pots and stick them in later (a la monty don's onions) If I can't plant them how do I store them. Last year I left my potatoes in the box they came in, and they all grew long white shoots, and getting them out of their nets took hours. it was pppretty stupid, so can I have the benefit of someones wisdom on shallots please!
