How about lavender vinegar, to go in laundry or baths? Just fill a big jar with lavender flowers, top up with either cider vinegar, white wine vinegar or plain old white vinegar, and let steep for a few weeks. A splash of that in the rinse aid drawer of the washing machine makes things smell nice, and a slosh in the bath or in hair rinsing water is very refreshing, can be used to wipe surfaces too so if you like to clean with vinegar its a nice change.

I've been fed lavender ice cream, which was divine. I haven't got a tried and tested recipe, though. If you could find one, I'd be interested

Lavender shortbread is also nice, just sprinkle a few rubbed and picked over flowers into a basic mix, don't overdo it though

Lavender sugar.
You could then use it to make Cab's icecream.

It being lavender time again I've done a couple of batches of lavender biscuits recently (two different recipes, one a buttery type and the other a shortbread) and from being rather sceptical I am slowly being converted; the taste is not at all overpowering and soapy as I feared, but almost quite spicey, and they are extremely pretty. Bizarrely TD seems to like them more than I do and he's not a big biscuit fan, and he thinks I could do with being more generous than I have been.

This month's Kitchen Garden has a lavender recipe special too for more ideas.

I adore lavender, I know not everyone likes it, but I love to go to sleep in lovely clean lavender scented bedding

A lot of people I know say "oooh lavender..old ladies"...but the only thing it reminds me of is visiting the Norfolk lavender place when one of my sisters lived there, and the astoundingly large piece of Victoria sponge I was allowed to have in the tea rooms...I like lavender a lot as a scent (a few light evenings with a glass of wine by the pond and some ribbon to make wands beckon, I think) but was a bit worried about it as a flavouring, I've been pleasantly surprised and now inclined to experiment a bit more.

Ooh damn, got to go and get the washing in...did the bedding today and included a bit of lavender oil with the pillows and pillow cases

that sounds fun, must try that! I can imagine a lavender jelly would go well with a roast dinner.

This is one of them, my favourite:

shorties (edited to include lavender variation)

the other I've only done once and I personallly didn't like so much because it was more buttery but I'll add it to that thread when I find it, if you look again tonight it should be there. The shorties are lovely though, sometimes turn out differently but always distressingly edible.

I make biscuits also - same-ish recipe to Bugs and very tasty. I have different types of lavender in the garden and each one makes different tasting biscuits.
I also put lavender leaves/ flowers into my bread dough.

We've just tried lavender champagne but the verdict is still out on it. It's not properly ready, a few more days yet, but we couldn't help having an early taste and you could definately tell you were drinking lavender..!

Mmmmmm..... May I ask what sort of recipe did you use? Could be tempted to make a small batch.
