I need to do a food hygiene certificate, level two and possibly three for my micro dairy venture. Someone told me I could do it online and the local EHO said whatever I did needed to be CIEH (chartered institute of environmental health) accredited, which most of them aren't. There is a CIEH online site but only gives basic info and can I get them to answer the phone?? That's a big NO.....

Has anyone here any experience of any of this? Does it really have to be CIEH, what's wrong with City and Guilds for example? Any opinions on whether it's better to do it online or on a course? I like the idea of online as it means I don't have to leave the farm and can do it in my own time.


I need to do the manufacturing one and am thinking of doing the level three as it covers HACCP as well though may simply do the separate haccp training instead... I could also do with some advice on whether that's all I'd need to cover. I have a vague notion that there is some other kind of risk assessment thing to do but might just be making that up. Any thoughts/experiences most appreciated.

i will ask tt,she did a one day course and assessment (iirc) for a level 2

hi ,iv'e just asked and it needs to be cieh ,a one day course +test for level 2 is about �60 at a local fe college

hope you have a local one soon,they seem to run them a few times a term

adult ed....down here its �50 for CIEH level 2.

I would actually lovevto expand my knowlwdge and experiance in fish mongering and butchery, im interested but finding a course i can attend or afford is proving difficult for my limited search effort, maybe i shpuld change jobs

I'd been at Morrisons for about 3 weeks, when the, then, personnel manager asked me if I'd be interested in doing a day's overtime each week working on the fish counter. I jumped at the chance and now I'm trying to make it a permanent switch. I want to be trained properly, to be a fishmonger, rather than someone who works on the fish counter, IYSWIM.
The ultimate would be a proper 3 year apprenticeship course, but, I suspect, I'm too old for that.
