Here is a piccy of the fitted bits we made around the salvaged sink (Sink found in an neighbours garden, taken with permission ) Another view showing some of the recycled bits including the old waxed pine two door cupboard found in a skip (originally dark brown, but we stripped it and waxed it!)

I know it isn't going to be everyones taste., Lots of people like sleek and ultra modern or prefer mass produced .
One of the reasons I love it, is that bits destined for landfill or the dump have a chance to be useful for a bit longer.
The Rayburn ,sink, two big pine cupboards and loads of the other bits and pieces were all rescued or salvaged .Most were free!

Oh and Tahir, it isn't always tidy!

Our kitchen will only be that tidy the day we move out, it's usually the messiest place in a messy house

It seems to fit in with the rest of the house, I think that's the key to nice kitchens, if you live in a cottage something bespoke and freestanding looks lovely, if you live in a modern flat or box a sleek kitchen might be better... I live in a modern box

ele I can kind of understand what you mean.
However the actual kitchen room I have is a brand new extension that we built ourselves (OH is a bricklayer) and that we have added reclaimed items to (like reclaimed beams and reclaimed roof tiles etc ) in order to make it look instantly old like the rest of the house. I had always wanted a huge farmhouse kitchen and the cottage had a long narrow galley type one ,so we added a really big kitchen/ family room on the north side of the house with rooms above. It has taken us years and we still are not finished as we do it all ourselves.

Where I live (1990's housing estate) some people have tried to make their houses look cottagey and it's never going to really work, as the shell of the house looks modern.

Want a proper pantry again.(Can't find 'sticks out bottom lip' emoticon). Our last house had a pantry cupboard built in to the kitchen against the outside wall and it was brilliant. Now we've got a proper-ish pantry but someone ran all the HW and CH pipes through it. And next door's extension means it's not on an outside wall either. Still useful mind you.
