I don't remember if you had addressed them previously, but a friend is very excited about Victor electric mouse and rat traps.

iirc rob tried a leccy trap, lethal to mouse(who was not a problem) and very unpleasant for ratty but not instantly fatal

not seen any sign of it in another 24 hrs, tis a bit chilly to find a body by nose

all quiet on the north-western frontier

almost a week with no eyeball and several days with no sounds or hound interest for hunting mutts these things are "above rats, we have terriers for that", divas
dear mutt we do not have a terrier, you bark at them and your princess fetched them back as potential slippers

to think gone would be nice but a bit longer to observed would be prudent

it may not have gone even if it has passed, still no sign of it so it is probably no longer a problem

it might have bought a cypriot passport and moved somewhere less hostile, it is/was the sort of rat that could find a wad of cash and some moody paperwork to improve its lot

first one to beat me in single combat for a long time

Oh dear. That is a pity. Is anyone doing any work near you to displace more rats?

rebuilding a hotel and gutting a pub might have stirred a few up, mostly i recon it has been the lack of footfall ie takeaway frass, no food bins from restaurants etc in town

adding 3meters to the flood banks might have shifted a few and there is usually some refurbs going on

lockdown urban rats followed the food and became home workers in the burbs, now there are lots of them cos life in the burbs is sweet and has less paid ratcatchers than a city full of pubs, bunshops and restaurants etc
apparently quite common in a lot of places, there were london based ones on C4 news last night, the reporter was having a winston night in an alley with quite a few and a ratcatcher as a guide
on the plus side urban foxes also have less kebabs etc and find rats a tasty meal

im going on a rat hunt, it is a rather big one

when folk describe how big it is often twice life-size, this one is twice life-size

a foot or so nose to bum and maybe in the kilo range, tis a buff beast

the so far reserve fenn 4 is playing hard to set but the springs are new, it needs working in and i need unbroken fingers

the fenn is now functional, a bit AK style to obtain working order.
no fingers were broken(these things don't mess about)
it is now in the draws of doom with tahini and cream cheese

the target presented itself again, blooming huge, if/when i get it this one it deserves stuffing(not in a recipe sense) or at a minimum it will get a csi photo with a carpenters square

huge, never seen one that size even at fancy rat shows(most bunnies are small, traded ones can be large etc)

did i say huge

trying not to be a poor witness, i would go for twice average size for a brown rat, massive for local ones

for a rat on a stick stall, it would be a premium item

mirror mirror on a stick
where did i put you?
i'm rather thick

the inspection mirror is ideal to check the trap without touching anything or having to kneel down which hurts

mirror mirror in a basket
now you are in my toolkit

mirror, with a built in light, on a "car aerial" type of handle is ace

stealth checking and stealth baiting is best

and i hate snappy in the mornings no finger harm but disturbing to be near such a bite
