My poor OH had a really nasty experience with on eof our hives of bees yesterday.

The hive had fallen off the stand (bad weather or rotton wood?) and obviously had to do something about it. So he got all the bee togs on and went to pick it up. The bees went absolutely ballistic! COvered in bees from head to foot - no doubt in my mind if head hadn't had a suit on they would have killed him.

They found some holes in the bees suit, crawled into the gloves and down into his wellies. The backs of his legs and one arm in particular had loads of stings and are swollen up like balloons. Not nice.

This lot of bees have been abit agressiv for a while and we have been waiting for an opportunity to requeen with eggs from our second which is really gentle.

Don't put up with nasty bees - it is'nt worth it.

Oooooh nasty - How is he feeling ? I've only been stung once and that was my own fault - not from cross bee's although mine were quite ratty last night - Hmm think I'll start a new thread about that

Ouch! Poor chap - hope he's recovered quickly. The other beekeeper in the village was telling me that one of his hives collapsed in the bad weather a few weeks ago and putting it all back together got a bit interesting! Your story reminds me to look at making sure that the hive stand is as strong as possible. I can see reinforcements coming on. Tim

His arm was even worse when he got up this morning so I made him go to the chemist to get some antihistamine (why are men such martyrs with this kind of thing and then are convinced they are dying if they get a cold?). Pharmacist took one look at his arm and packed him off to the doctor.

He spent all morning sitting in a smelly waiting room (no appointment) only to have the doctor tell him all he needed were so antihistamine tablets from the chemist!

A wasted morning to add to his woes.
