I'd seriously love to make a modest living from woodland. Reading books, web sites etc I've picked up plenty of ideas and visiting wood fairs, shows and talking to people such as coppice workers has provided some more. Rather than simply sell logs or charcoal I wish to find other uses for the wood and wood products.
Some common uses are coppice products such as hurdles, bean poles, and withies. Some less common ideas include wooden tiles (shingles) woodchips for smoking and unusual tree growth which makes highly patterned wood ideal for knife handles. I've also recently leant that although I knew some woods are sought after by wood turners I had no idea that some quite small pieces could be used.
So any other ideas? Does anyone buy woods for their crafts or sell unusual wood products?
