On my new plot, the whole thing really did need digging to get the weeds out (or under to rot). So everything is a bit looser and more aerated than I'd normally choose for brassicas.
So I'm considering the old-fashioned approach of planks of wood and walking to squish it down before planting out my brassicas. I've never done this, I've never needed to firm the ground for my brassicas (I've always had a dig over in autumn). Is this a good approach?

I'll be thoroughly treading the soil for my new brassica bed Good and firm. The old guys say you should have to use a crowbar to transplant brussels sprouts (going a bit far? )
All best - Gavin
