We have just bought a little corner of Kent where we plan to have a go at Smallholding and get as far away from the smelly old rat race as we possibly can! My hubby is a local but I am from Bonnie Scotland and we have two wee babies aged 2 and 1.

Although we have just moved in and are not even out of boxes yet - we have already whiled away a fair amount of hours hatching plans and exploring possibilities. We can't wait to get going!

Our jobs for the year ahead include getting some chickens, getting the greenhouse and the shed put up and sorting out the veggie patch. Long term we just want to live off the land as much as we can.

Wow! What a warm welcome! Thanks you guys.

We've got about 5 acres here. The possibilities of what I can get onto that when I think of how many veggies I had in my old postage stamp of a garden sets me all aquiver!

So I'll be doing my chicken run in the upcoming weeks as I am on the waiting list for 10 girls from the BHWT. Gonna have a few wee guys for the table as well and a couple of Buff Orpingtons 'cos I think they are gorgeous.

I like the River Cottage guy's philosophy (never remember his name... Hugh Whaddayamacallhim...) that if you are gonna eat an animal, then it should have as a good a life as possible before you bump it on the head.

Got loads of wild rabbits and pheasants here too... hubby will have to do the dirty deed though as despite being happy to eat them - I am way too soft to kill 'em.
