I'm trying to make a new banner ad (for Ginkotree's excellent courses), and I've got the basic design made to the right proportions in powerpoint, which I save as a gif file, but when I try to resize it to a scale where it will work online, I'm losing all the text definition and its going blurry.

I know its something stupid I'm doing, but can't see the wood for the trees at the moment.

Can you resize it in powerpoint before saving it? Once it's a gif then the text will be treated as an image and can go lumpy if resized.

that must be what I'm doing wrong, I want to save it to a certain pixel size, but powerpoint only lets me save it in cm, or am I missing something?

Are you able to upload the GIF here so that we can get an idea of what you are trying to do? I am not sure how much use Powerpoint is for this kind of thing. A proper graphics program might be quicker and simpler. I am not an expert but I could possibly help, or maybe someone else here has more skill at this.

I can probably re-size that for you if you send the highest res original you can. What font is it?

Papyrus

but I've just downloaded gimp, which I vaguley recall used to be quite good for this sort of thing, so I'll see if I can do better in that and if I draw a blank again I may be back to take you up on your very kind offer.

I know I can do this, just being dense today I think

Looking at an existing banner the 468 x 60 pixel banners work out at 165.10 x 21.17 mm if that's any help (with a 72 ppi resolution which seems to be the same as the banner you've posted).

Are you trying to resize the file that you imported from Powerpoint? If so that probably will not work - far easier to import the 2 photos into GIMP, then create the text from scratch etc.

thats what I'm trying to do, got the pics in fine, gat a text box up, but can't find a way to alter the text size anywhere. Have now been through at least 20 different web pages about how to do this, and none of them tell me where to find the tool to alter text size, its doing my head in

To alter text characteristics in GIMP you should have a "tool box" that you select the text option and then the bottom bit of the "tool box" shows you the font, size etc.

I'm having the same problems with my banner. I'm using powerpoint but my images are coming out somewhat blurry and I want my banner to have clear line and images. When I do a test run on my website I see the fuzziness in the banner. I was reading something about saving the banner as WMF but I don't know exactly how that would work and wanted to know if anybody has and ideas or suggestions on how to design your own professional banner from scratch?
