Hello thank you for your messages of welcome I am touched ...

I am struggling to remember how I came across your site: I think maybe it was just as the result of my ambling around the internet and discovering you.

Looking forward to joining in more now, especially with the forums

I take that as a compliment. Yours is most tasteful, too. Are those bugs actually humping, or just caught up in rush-hour traffic?

Well, I couldn't see the mechanical bits so I have to assume that as all the evidence was there and they were really putting their heart and soul in to it...the more the merrier as far as ladybirds are concerned. I look on it as an educational picture

Mine is just to remind me of what I am SUPPOSED to be doing since we jacked in the "proper" jobs and downsized ... I am meant to be a writer but doing it for money isn't as much fun as I had hoped it would be and I'm .. er, not making much progress!

We are blessed with a reasonable amount of ladybirds (and bumblebees - yay!) in our garden. Is it true that there is a malignant new European strain of ladybird that is trying to dominate - they have a washed-out yellow colour instead of the vibrant red? Or am I imagining that?

Oh dear...what sort of writing do you do? Journalism, or copywriting, or are you working on that novel? You know we're always looking for new articles for the site...the pay is...well, erm, it isn't, but the appreciation is enormous! Honestly a bit on the downsides of freelancing/homeworking would be highly appropriate, but as you're getting paid for it it's ridiculously cheeky of me to ask

No, definitely not imagining it - it's called the harlequin ladybird and there's a brief discussion and some details from the Beeb on this thread - https://forum.downsizer.net/about2564.html - I've not seen one myself yet, but then, I'm not sure I'm very observant
