I am not confident about identifying these two plants apart. Can anyone help? Would a photo help or are they too similar at this stage? There are a lot of one or the other growing along the stream. I also noticed an awful lot of mare's tail there as well. Just above the Japanease knotweed.

they are VERY diff. plants,look them up on google,or wikepidia.[hemlock is deadly]

Hemlock gets much bigger and has more finely divided leaves. I have photos of Alexanders, but they will be further on by now so I will get you some more. This is a good site. Have a look a hemlock water dropwort too if it's on a stream bank.

Alexanders have quite a pinky tinge to the main stem, low down. I don't know if t'other plants mentioned have. EV

It's one I'm just not sure about and until I am it too closely resembles hemlock in my eyes to risk it.

Alexanders has a very distinct smell too...a sort of cross between celery and fennel.. Kate

if you are still confused about these two plants found in the wild ,for gods sake do'nt try them or any others without going out with an expert or join a local group,not the sort of thing you can go by using a book or the net only :!!!!!!

I am, don't know why as I'm fine with many others. S'ok I am going to use a Jamanda.

Haven't tried them yet as my knowledge is limited but am I right in thinking this is Alexanders? Flower. Stem & leaf & one of the flower of the three cornered leek which I do know.

Alexanders are mostly past the flowering stage now and starting to develop green seeds, Hemlock and Hemlock Water Dropwort are just starting to come into flower and may have buds developing. Have a close look and this info may help perhaps?
