I've been using Ascott for years and I was really sad to hear that the original owners were no longer involved in the business and it had moved - but customer loyalty and goodwill and all that and I have stuck with them, despite them getting orders wrong etc etc..

I ordered a duck feeder for 50 plus on the 11th of May via eBay and paid for it. On the 14th May the order was marked as 'despatched' on ebay. Today I have rung chasing it and been told that they are 'out of stock'. I said the order had been marked as despatched and could she check. So she did, and they are, indeed, out of stock.

So they have had my money for nearly a fortnight without telling me they don't have the goods.

I asked for a refund - she didn't offer - and she said that was fine. I asked when and she said 'some time towards the end of the week'. I asked if it could be done today so that I could get on to Solway Feeders and they could get me one out in the post. She said 'I doubt they will, as they haven't got any either, but I'll sort your refund'.

No apology. I've spend hundreds with them over the years and I've recommended them to people time and time again. This is me, officially, completely and totally seeing my arse with them. I'll never recommend them to anyone again. In fact, I will warn people off them.

Only ever had stuff from them a couple of times and they've been OK. Main reason I've never used them more is that I've generally found what I wanted cheaper elsewhere.

If you feel really strongly about their behaviour you can report a complaint about them to ebay. you'll be refunded double quick.

I'll see whether my refund comes through before close of play and if it doesn't, I will.

It was just the whole 'I don't give a toss' attitude of the woman; when the original owners were so good at customer service. You can only coast along on someone else's reputation for so long; and I reckon that this is what is happening here.

Opened a paypal dispute. Thank you, girlracer.

It's a big treadle one, to take a bag of food at a time.

so if it were my shop, I would welcome a letter saying why you don't intend to shop with them again. The new owners may be completely oblivious to the fall in standards, it's not always the case that new owners care nothing about customer loyalty, when you take on a new venture, it can be difficult to notice these things.

There was room on my 'paypal dispute' form for me to put in a bit extra. So I have done.

Am I allowed to have a glass of wine to steady my nerves, now? Especially since I don't have to spend all evening doing the flipping carer's allowance form.

Three? Might have to wait until the children are in bed

I have just edited my original post - it's 52-something, not 70. But it's still a hell of a lot of money.

Sorry to hear about your problem with Ascott , unfortunately it's not a 'one off'.

We had a similar problem when we ordered a Food Mill earlier this year (which it turned out was not in stock). It was meant to be delivered within 2 days, when it didn't arrive I phoned to check everything was okay. That was when I was told they didn't have any.

We did eventually receive it about 3 weeks later.

They shouldn't take orders for items they don't have without letting you know about a delay!
