Mine, which is run off a leisure battery, powered by solar panel, has stopped "ticking".
The green light which used to flash with each "tick"/shock is now on continuously (it goes red if battery low). I cant work out what this means + whether it's still working.
If not do I need a new energiser or battery???
It's been running fine including winter for about 5 years.

(I've been too cowardly to actually touch the fence to see if it's still shocking, but suspect without the sinister tick tick, it's not)

Can you test it with a 12v bulb? Or get your dog to cock its leg over it. Tests your circuit & cures their interest in the contained livestock in one go!!

Just find a bit of grass. Put the tip of it on the fence and slowly advance it. You will then find out 'gently' if it is working! Me, I hate electric shocks.

Has it shorted out with a twig/branch across it? Cut a piece of electrical cable about 18 inches long and remove an inch of the insulation from each end. Hold one end on the electric fence and touch the other end to a piece of metal (wire fence or metal rod pushed into the ground). Should result in a crack and spark without shock if functioning correctly.

Buy a fence tester too. The little bleepy ones are good to go in your pocket as a warning when you approch an unknown fence. Also get an electrode on a wire type. Both will be so invaluable that you'll wish you bought them years ago.

Hi Mr O, d'you mean the energiser's knackered or the leisure battery? I can't find out from googling what a continuous green light as opposed to a flashing one means on the energiser.

Is the cover easy to remove, I had one this year and there was a small fuse in there that had blown.

Dan1 I suggest you go to your supplier of both items and quiz them, telling them about how useless their kit is and the chances are they will fall over to help! You may have to eat some humble pie at some stage, but that's easy if you get a result in your favour! (works for me!).
