I've been tempted to jump the fence so theirs don't just end up rotting on the floor but have resisted so far

Why in the fridge? is that an Essex thing

He is serious about his apples. He has an apple fridge like some have a beer fridge.

I was out this morning picking up some 8'x4' pallets, for recycling over my mate Pepe's allotment (he needs to built shelter for his prize Dalias) and a few for me. At the collection point, I noticed an apple tree up on the side embankment that had medium sized dark red (fully red) apples hanging from it (it was the windfalls rotting in the yard that gave it away ). I had one, for purely research purposes you understand ) and it had pure white flesh that stained red as you bit into it and was sweet and a bit acidy, maybe too acidy for my likeing, but nice all the same

Any idea what it might be Tahir?

I rember you discribing one like that on another thread, one of your own I think?

Cos we only buy every 3 weeks or so, keep replenishing the apple basket from the fridge

My local orchard has been selling since mid-September, fairly whipping through the varieties. The Jonagolds are now out, which will be the main crop until January. Last week they were full-flavoured but very tarty, they are now awaiting cooking as the new ones are much better - they picked them too soon.

We keep ours in the kitchen. A few days at room temperature makes them much tastier.

They are always 75c per Kg, from September to January, but they are better quality now, so it is worth freezing some for winter pies.

Their Conference pears are also very tasty - they were disappointing last year.

Can anyone recommend a website that shows the different English apples with photos? I checked out the Links but couldn't find one there and tried googling but most sites have lists without pics.

Or failing that I could post a picture and someone could hazard a guess

www.brogdale.org has a searchable database with lots of photos but they've got over 2000 varieties...

If you want a real ID I'd go to your nearest apple day, take a couple of apples (including stalk)

But if you fancy posting pics we could have a go at guessing

here you go then, it's always nice to have pics I doubt they're anything too rare or fancy. I put the pear in as well, cos I'm not sure what that is either, it doesn't taste or look quite like a conference. The smaller apple tasted very good and sweet though went brown immediately, the bigger one was less flavoured. I'm not a very descriptive food critic

I'm guessing the little one is an egremont russet or something like that

forgot to say they're not what I've grown but what I bought so I only wondered if anyone had off the top of their head guesses
