Looking at your avatar, you could use some moisturiser.

I'm having trouble finding coconut oil: localish Superdrug doesn't have it. Someone mentioned ordering it on the internet: does anyone have an address for that?

Sarah D bought some from Suma, the food cooperative. I believe they'll even deliver to Wales but you need to place a bulk order, minimum is about 300 I think. However, if you have difficulty getting hold of other "health" things or would like to buy foods in bulk (eg rice pasta pulses dried fruit, most organic processed food too) they're well worth looking in to, especially in your situation where you seem to know a fair few people in the village.

Bugs: I think you've cracked it for me. The shop where I work already has a Suma account! I'll be putting coconut oil on the order next week!

As Sally kindly gave us permission to use this on the articles section I have just posted it there so that it should be easy to find in the future! Oooh, have just tried to retype that several times, amazing what a hot day and three glasses of a very nice chilled Muscadet can do for the coordination...

I'm looking to make some face cream (and maybe cleanser too) and I'm pretty sure that I can get some beeswax next time I go to the farmers market, only problem is I have really sensitive skin as I've got rosacea.

To date creams that are marketed as natural are often worse than the industrial chemical ones, especially if they're oily or contain essential oils. The essential oils I can omit I guess, but has anyone got any tips on getting the balance of the base cream right for my skin type or is it totally a trial and error thing?

Ele, I have a book accusingly at me on my bookcase by Josephine Fairley who ran Green & Blacks, therefore, we trust her . Seriously I haven't tried the recipes yet but looking at the section on sensitive skin she has a marigold cleanser (calendula petals, cocoa butter, beeswax and sweet almond or olive oil) on the grounds that calendula is one of the most healing and soothing things for sensitive skin - it does often turn up in such preparations but as you say could just be something you're sensitive to as well; don't think it is very scented though.

There are some more recipes for sensitive skin treatments (cream, mask) plus look for comfrey, chamomile and rose and avoid lavender, mint, nettle, sage, thyme, rosemary and products with alchohol.

Apart from the sensitive skin section it's well worth having if you can find it in The Works or similar for a fiver; it may even be worth it's weight in gold if it gets you the right recipe . Library might well have it, it's a fairly recent book.

Thanks for the tip bugs, I'll definitely look out for the book, the list of things to avoid looks spot on so I think she may know what she's on about. I was thinking of trying calendula, I've even got some in the garden
