I had a meeting with a chap from the local planning office regarding the repairs on the water mill and have been pleasantly surprised!
I have always been told that these people are horrible (sweeping statement I know), but this guy couldn't have been nicer. He seemed genuinely interested in what I am doing - without planning permission - which is basically making the place water tight for the winter. Lots of blue tarp and dodgy scaffolding. And seems to really want to help me do what I want to do! I think it really helps that I don't want to rip out the machinery and turn the place into a block of flats.
He was totally happy with temporary (5 year) repairs and basically said don't waste time applying for permission to repair the place, use that time making it water tight.

I am a very happy and relieved bunny!

Well done that sensible planning officer, they're not all like that.

Are you intending to restore the mill to working order then, Hils? If you are, it sounds like a lot of hard work, but a fantastic project.
