Not madness at all. Looks like a bargain and the quarterly mooring fees are very reasonable. I used to pay more than that for mooring at 27ft boat on the Thames nearly 15 years ago and I wasn't allowed to live on it.

Really? Around here we're lucky if we can get a nasty one bedroom flat in a dodgy area for �90,000! Maybe we should move to Wales!

Seeing as we can't afford anything anyway, I'm hoping our numbers come up. Have spotted a farm not far from the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, near the village we stayed in a cottage two years running. Nice conservatory - perfect as a greenhouse with added sofas.

The madness is that I'm not fit enough to live on a boat (various friends do and I know what's involved), but you are right it's a bargain (possibly too much of one). Still, I'd love to live where I could smell the estuary...

We were told a couple of years ago when we had it valued that 'we might possibly get �40K for it of we were lucky', sadly the days of being able to get a house round here for �10grand have passed, but I saw a couple in the estate agent a few weeks back at �27k, so prices are still failry low round here although something modernised and 'nice' will cost you about �60k

You used to be able to. I looked into it years ago when I was considering buying one near Hampton Court. Sanity returned and I didn't go through with it in the end.

It says pets are allowed but no children! My gran used to live on a narrowboat. She designed it herself, and it included a room for Grandad's homebrew hobby (it was bigger than her kitchen, as I recall!) They used to pootle off all over the place - I remember crewing them up the locks as it got a bit much for them.

Why is your area so low-priced compared to other areas?
