Take one second hand shed off Freecycle, some spare bits of wood and some old lino, and hey presto, our new chicken coop! The girls will be moving in today - I hope they like it! We also got a new greenhouse last week that took us two and a half days to make

Enjoy the pics

Absolutely brilliant!! I just love seeing people use things that some lazy bugger would otherwise just have thrown away.

Cracking effort on the coop!!

Thanks for your comments folks!
We just made it up as we went along really. Really pleased with the result though. Some of the hens have been exploring it this afternoon and trying out the nesting boxes. I might have to put a higher lip on the front though as they just scratch all the bedding onto the floor!

You may find the chickens sleep and poo in the nest boxes. Generally it is better to have the roosts higher than the nest box.

Nice coop though.

Thanks folks

@misty07: Not sure - we've always kept our birds with conifers and haven't had a problem yet

@gardening-girl: We're in between Radstock and Frome, a little village called Coleford.

@alison: Some of our birds have always slept in the nesting boxes I'm afraid. We haven't been too bothered though, we just pick the poo out each morning, and they do like snuggling up together!

Great bit of work on the coop. Quite a few chickens you must have!

Talking of greenhouses and DIY, any advice on how to make or find a greenhouse with raised beds inside?

We have a space about 10' by 8' going to waste - sadly someone covered it in concrete, how people seem to these days. It could be a great growing space, and having worked in lovely old greenhouses with proper brick built raised beds I thought that would be really good. But looking on the internet can't seem to see anywhere that you can get a polycarb top part (ie like the top half of a greenhouse only) that could be screwed down onto a brick base maybe a couple of feet tall.

Does anyone here have any ideas on how to go about it - short of buying a greenhouse and chopping the bottom off, that is?
